Old House, New Home: A family finds a new home in an old house with family history

A new family finds a new home in an old house with a family history.

Treacy and Brad Redfearn both grew up in Cheraw.  When they reconnected and later got engaged, they quickly realized that Treacy’s two-bedroom house wasn’t going to accommodate their new family of five.  Treacy was new to the home buying process and turned to Mary Anderson at Lewis Realty to help guide her through the process.  “Mary was a plethora of knowledge to a novice,” Treacy said. Their search led them to a historic home on Greene Street, nestled in the historic district of Cheraw.  “The moment we walked in the door, it just fit,” Treacy remarked about their initial viewing of the home.

weddingWhat she didn’t know at the time was that this home also held part of her family history.  As Treacy and Brad moved forward with plans to make an offer on the home, a relative shared with Treacy her family’s history with this historic home.  As newlyweds, Treacy’s grandparents rented a room, which is now the master bedroom in the home.  Treacy’s father was born in the home, and he and his mother continued to live there after Treacy’s grandfather was killed in action during WWII.

This seemed to confirm what Treacy already knew, “The house is perfect in every way for our family.”  In a whirlwind of events, Treacy and Brad sold Treacy’s former home, closed on their new home, and a few hours after closing, the couple surrounded by their family were married in the backyard of their new historic home.  Treacy and Brad said, “Mary went above and beyond in every way.”
